PALM BEACH COUNTY SHERIFF'S OFFICE - LEAD TRAINER - SGT. MIKE ANDERSON

A couple of days ago, a fellow handler suffered a severe injury while off duty. Sgt. Mike Anderson, the supervisor and lead trainer of the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office K-9 Unit, suffered the amputation of one of his legs in a traffic accident. Mike has served in the PBSO K-9 Unit for 18 years and has been employed at the agency for 20 years. Mike is an accomplished trainer, and an excellent decoy. His life, like many of ours, centered on dogs and dedication to training top notch K-9 teams.
K-9 is a "family". If you've been around for any length of time you realize that we are a small community in a large profession. Only other members of our "family" understand the enormous amount of time, and personal sacrifices it takes to serve as long as someone like Mike has.
It is in this regard that we ask that you all to help out a family member. Mike will be facing a long battle to recover from this traumatic injury. As of today he is still in the hospital, and will be facing more surgeries. This is no doubt a life changing injury, but I believe we can help Mike with this transition and the obstacles he will undoubtedly face.
It does not matter how much you are able to donate. All that we're asking is that you give some thought to the challenges he will be facing, and know that if it were another K9 officer, Mike would be the first to give a hand.
